By far, the most memorable event of fifth grade is always camp. This year will be no exception!
Mark your calendars for the first full week of May for this year’s exciting trip. We will spend an entire week living as a family with the 6th graders, volunteer high school counselors, and staff communing with God and his creations in nature. More information will be sent home as the trip nears. Please feel free to contact me at furtahs@catholicweb.com with any comments or suggestions this year. I look forward to sharing this year with you and your children!

Classroom News
The year is flying by already. Midterm has passed, and Iowa testing is coming to an end. Please help your child contunue to succeed by checking their assignment notebooks nightly. They should be filled out completely and legibly every night. These notebooks are great communication tools between us. Especially as the first quarter is nearing its end, or if your child has been absent, look for lists of late/absent work that needs to be completed.
Congratulations to all 5th graders on fabulous vocabulary test scores! Every fifth grader earned an A+ on the test for Unit #3’s words. Keep it up! We complete one unit every two weeks. On the Friday of the second week, the workbook pages should be complete and the test is taken. Please help me in reminding your children that the workbook pages are due when they enter the room. Many are rushing to finish them (and thier handwriting pages,) as they’re being collected. This, of course, results in homework grades that don’t accurately reflect thier abilities.
As we don’t have school the two days before Halloween, our celebrations will be minimized this year. Our class will have a small party on Wednesday the 28th, where students will be able to distribute treats and complete a Halloween craft. However, we will not be wearing costumes on this day. Instead, students may wear non-uniform pants with an orange, black, or Halloween themed shirt.
Continue working on your Saint projects. Mrs. Nadeau is planning the presentation of the Saints (in costume) to be after mass on Thursday, November 5th in the school cafeteria. All are welcome!
Outdoor Education
While our trip is still many months away, the excitement is building! Many parents have inquired about the
fees for this year’s trip. While costs are not yet set, plan on between $200 and $250. Items helpful on the trip(sleeping bag, flashlight, waterproof watch, insulated water bottle, disposable cameras, etc) make great Christmas gifts for 5th and 6th graders! Bidding on our auction basket (full of items needed for the trip) is another great way to start preparing for our trip and raising money for our school. There will be an informational meeting about one month before hand to distribute all of the important information and permission slips. Please watch the Rocket Review for the exact date and time.
