The Sacrament of Matrimony celebrates the covenant of faithfulness between a husband and wife, which is publically proclaimed in the presence of God and the Catholic Christian community during the wedding ceremony. To prepare engaged couples for this life long commitment, the Catholic Church requires that the couples participate in a number of learning sessions, which explore communication skills and aspects of the Catholic Christian faith relating to the marriage covenant. This preparation is to ensure as far as possible that those seeking to celebrate this sacrament are able to make a free, mature, LIFE-LONG (until death) commitment to each other. This required preparation may take nine months to one year to complete, depending on the couple's personal schedules. It is, therefore, recommended that engaged couples have their first meeting with the pastor at least nine months before they intend to be married. St. Matthew's pastor can be reached at 232-0880.
