Do you want to play a bigger role in your Church?
NOW IS YOUR CHANCE! At the present time, we need more people to participate in the Ministry of the Word... we need YOU! In order to be a lector, you must be fully initiated into the Catholic faith (age is no barrier but you must have received Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist), you must have reasonably good reading skills and be willing to serve in this vital capacity at least once a month. The "Ministry of the Reader" is instituted to proclaim the readings from Scripture (except the Gospel, which is read only by the Celebrant). The reader, more commonly known as a "lector," may also announce the intentions for the general intercessions and read the psalm between readings. Those who participate in this important ministry must be carefully prepared so that the faithful may develop a warm and living love for the Scripture from listening to the sacred texts.
With the present Mass schedule, we need about 36 people (total) taking one turn per month. (Of course, Lectors are also needed for Holy Day and special liturgies.) If you are interested in becoming a Lector, please contact the parish office at 241-8645 and leave your name and number (or email us here and we'll pass the information along).
By the way, training for new lectors is mandatory and will be scheduled for a convenient time later in the year. You will also be able to join your fellow Ministers of the Word for an annual enrichment meeting. Remember, this is another opportunity for you to be actively involved in the Liturgy. Please think about it and then dial the phone!
