Karen Pilon, principal of St. Michael the Archangel School, is the daughter of Paul and Frances Pilon. She grew up as the oldest of 16 children in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Karen graduated from St. Thomas the Apostle Grade and High School. While attending college at Eastern Michigan University, she served her parish at various times as a Girl Scout Leader, Youth Minister, Choir Member and 5th Grade and High school REP Teacher.
After graduating with her Bachelors of Science and Elementary Teaching Certificate, Karen taught Grades 2 and 3 in two Catholic schools which closed. She accepted a position teaching high school courses for the Willow Run Schools and began supervising an evening program. During this time she earned her MI Elementary Administrator's Certificate and a Masters degree, also from EMU, in Educational Administration. Karen accepted the principalship here at St. Michael the Archangel School in 1989.
At home in Ypsilanti, Karen serves her parish as the coordinator of a monthly dinner for the homeless. She also teaches high school catechism classes for the teenagers of her siblings and firends. Those classes have included Old Testament, New Testament, and Church History. Karen enjoys cooking, reading, traveling and all manner of card and board games. She has a goal to spend time visiting in each of the 50 united states. She's just one state shy of her goal and we're rooting for her!
