Kathleen DuBay was born and raised on the east side of Detroit where she attended Holy Name of Jesus Parish and Grade School. Following grade school, she attended Dominican High School and was active in Basketball, Field Hockey, Choir and Yearbook. Kathy then went to the University of Michigan and was one of a handful of women in 1970 to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
Following college, Kathy was employed by the Detroit Edison Company in a variety of positions including Research and Development Analyst, Systems Analyst and eventually, Director of Administration. During these years of working she also pursued courses toward her Masters in Engineering at Wayne State.
Kathleen married James DuBay. They lived in Royal Oak and Troy Michigan before coming to Monroe in 1984. Their five children, Jean, Jacqueline, Jim, Sarah and Mary Kay attended St. Michael Grade School. Kathleen was employed part-time as a consultant for a few years, however, she eventually found that motherhood was for her a full time job and so for almost 20 years that is where she dedicated her talents. It was during this time that she became active or assumed leadership of many of St. Michael's volunteer organizations, such as Education Commission, School Committee, Monroe Vicariate Council, Youth Group, Monroe Youth Leaders Association, Area Facilitators for Youth Ministry, Altar Society, Choir, PTG and others. It was during these years that she also served as primary caregiver for several relatives and hosted a few foreign students in her home.
As her family grew and became a little more independent, Kathleen found time to take on part time employment. She began substitute teaching at St. Michael's School and even served as a full time teacher for one year, when the school faced a shortage of teachers. Kathleen's present position as Director of Religious Education (DRE) and Youth Ministry combines two of her loves: ministry to children and ministry to teens. Kathleen is also very involved in the faith formation of adults through her work with the Education Commission and DRE Associations. Kathleen is certified as a Level II Youth Minister, a Level II DRE and a Catechist with the Archdiocese of Detroit.
When not working, Kathleen enjoys walking, sewing, decorating and entertaining her family and friends.
