St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church at 490 Arnold Mill Road, Woodstock, GA 30188 US - About Us
About UsSt. Michael the Archangel was founded as a mission in August, 1995. The mission started the first Sunday with over 300 hundred families. The parish family has continued to grow to over 2500 families. Construction of the new Church building was completed in January 1999 and the first mass was held January 22, 1999. The sanctuary will seat 750 and the Day Chapel will seat 60. There are 12 classrooms, conference and meeting rooms, a large kitchen and dining space. There is also office space for the Administrataive and Religious Education offices. The furnishings and statues in our church were made especially for St. Michael's in Mexico and Italy. Our altar, baptismal font, lecturn and tabernacle table were all hand crafted especially for St. Michael's by a local company in Atlanta. In our Day Chapel, there are 10 stained glass windows which depict the saints. The windows were donated by individual families at St. Michael's.
In the fall of 2002 a new Parish Hall was opened. The Hall is used for Parish Social Activites, meetings and the Life Teen program holds their Life Nights there on Sunday evenings. The Hall also has a permanent nursery with a mural of Noah's Ark painted on two of the walls.
In 2005 a new parking lot was completed which allows for easy drop off to the Parish Hall. In 2006 a new rectory was built on the parish grounds which houses the parish priests and guests.
A Prayer Garden with over 750 bricks and 1000 plants that were dontated by parishioners was dedicated in June of 2006, the 10th anniversary of the parish. In May of 2008 a tornado touched down at the parish. The roofs of all the buildings were damaged and had to be replaced but the structures were not damaged. On the 35 acres of parish property over 400 trees fell and had to be removed. Mother Nature did some creative landscaping at the Prayer Garden, but the the spring of 2009 saw the garden flourish and be even more beautiful. A stature of St. Francis was added to the Prayer Garden in memory of Colin Brennan, a teen who was killed in an automobile accident. Also donated to the Prayer Garden was a stature of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a stone grotto was built to house the stature.
On September 30, 2006 a Memorial to the Unborn, a project of the Knights of Columbus, which features a donated stature of Mary, Our Lady of Grace, was dedicated. The Memorial is located next to the Day Chapel.
