Mission Statement
To provide for needy expectant mothers in the areas of food, clothing for themselves and their unborn, furniture, day care, mentoring and counseling. We also help pay for telephone and electric bills, apartment or house rentals and so on.
Who do we serve?
Our clients are mostly young minority women who find themselves in an unexpected pregnancy situation and are in urgent need of just the very basics of life. A roof over their head, clothing, food, etc. The majority of them honestly want to find work and begin rebuilding their self-esteem.
Why the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants provides this help
Many of our clients come from poverty situations. In fact most if not all were born into these conditions and because of a lack of skills find it almost impossible to land an 8 to 5 job earning more than $ 7/hr. They are not well educated and live in the inner city areas. Marriage is almost unheard of and these young women become pregnant by the next smooth talking guy they meet expecting to fall in love with him, only to find out he was only after a brief interlude. Many of the girls have other children and are trying desperately to make ends meet and provide for their children. They are learning life’s lessons the hard way. Nevertheless, while they are learning about life’s realities and the situation they are in, they need help. That help at this point in their lives has to be tangible.
Are there alternatives for these women?
One might ask, why can’t these women get assistance from the state welfare system instead of private donations from organizations such as the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants. The answer is simple. The state of NJ and many others have drastically reduced such aid; even their energy assistance programs (heat, electricity, etc) are all oversubscribed with long lines of applicants waiting to get help. About the only financial help these gals can count on are food stamps ($338/mo.) and welfare ($322/mo.) and not all are eligible for both. That comes to $7920 a year to live on. Not much if you have two or three children and are expecting another very soon. If you were a women living under these conditions, it is easy to understand how every day is a tedious battle to keep your head above water. In addition, how desperate one can become wondering how in the world you could possibly survive. We at the helpers understand their plight and why they keep falling into these situations of getting pregnant with no commitment from the father of the child. Like every human being under stress, with little hope on the horizon and fighting depression each week, they are searching for relief knowing full well how very hard it is for them to rise above their station in life without a lot of help from the outside.
One can even understand their fruitless yearning for love even if it comes in the form of a non-committal boyfriend who promises them the world.
To cite a few examples
One young woman, Sandy, has four children and one night recently her ex boyfriend came to her house and beat her. She did not have a workable telephone and had to run to a neighbor to use their phone to call the police. The Helpers stepped in and arranged to have a phone installed and to pay her monthly bill for one year. We have also provided winter clothing for her children and as Sandy is pregnant now we will give her infant clothes when the baby is born in December. We were also able to pay for her overdue electric bill totaling $ 675. There is Shakir a 15-year-old high school student, 8 months pregnant with twins. She was contemplating abortion as an option but decided for life after receiving help and counseling from the Helpers. Nicole is trying to become independent and does not want to become a burden on anyone. She just wants a place of her own but needs a security deposit on her very first apartment. We gave it to her. She is expecting a boy baby very soon. Cecilia is 19 weeks pregnant but cannot speak English. We are providing food, clothes, furniture, and medical care until she gets a job. We keep in touch with her through the assistance of a bi-lingual Spanish interpreter volunteer on our staff. Valeen is only 14 years old and has made a very personal and courageous decision to give her baby up for adoption. The Helpers have arranged for an open adoption whereby she can remain in contact with her baby and the adoptive parents. Maria recently just delivered a beautiful baby girl. Nine months earlier, she had been dropped off by a “boyfriend” at an abortion clinic with orders to have an abortion. Through God’s grace and the help of one of our counselors she left the building and is now putting her life back together. We have provided her with tangible help also (rent assistance, a telephone, and a refrigerator.

Who are the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants?
The “Helpers” were created by Msgr. Philip Reilly in Brooklyn, NY in 1982 and have chapters in many U.S. Cities and overseas. They are a non-profit, tax-deductible charity organization offering material assistance and support to single expectant mothers who are in dire financial straits. In addition to tangible and economic support, we offer Christian spiritual guidance to help them cope with their life’s situation.
How we are different
Some charitable organizations tend to be very bureaucratic and go to great lengths to check if clients are truly deserving of assistance. The “Helpers” moves swiftly to check and verify the client’s situation and provides help immediately. This is important because many times the lives of these women and their children are vulnerable to economic hardships, hunger, and emotional and physical abuse. Some have become so depressed they took their own lives. We must not forget that there is a difference between needy and deserving. Some of these women may not meet the criteria of deserving but they all are in need. We at the Helpers place most of our emphasis on the neediness of these women because it is there that the well being of them and their children takes precedence. After all, does each of us truly deserve all the gifts that have been bestowed upon us?
Your Help is desperately needed
How would like to save a life? Literally, save the life of a human being? Well, you can!
Today over 1.3 million unborn children lose their lives every year thru abortion. So many struggling young single expectant mothers have given up hope that anyone can help them. Most of them simply feel they cannot afford to have a child and so have turned to abortion as an answer. However, this does not have to be. In addition, this is where you come in. Yes, you! You can give them hope and let them know they are not alone in their situation. You can do this by donating to the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants of Cherry Hill, NJ. Whatever you do give is tax deductible. With your generosity the Helpers are assisting these women with their most pressing real life problems by providing housing, food, clothing, medical care, day care for their other children, help with paying electric bills and adoption services if desired. Yes, you and I together can give them alternatives to abortion. All our help to these women is provided free of charge to them. Nevertheless, we can only do this with your help. So please consider giving whatever you can and rest assured that every dollar will be used to provide an answer to whatever their most pressing problems are. Remember you can make a difference, a very big difference. You can save a life and give hope to a mother-to-be.
Again thank you for considering this appeal for help.
Sincerely,
Helpers of God’s Precious Infants
