St. Pius X Church at 5075 Bigner Road, Beaumont, TX 77708 US - R.C.I.A. for Children

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is also tailored to help unbaptized children of catechetical age to prepare to become full members of the Church with the help of the parents. When an infant is baptized, it is the parents who take full responsibility for fulfilling the baptismal promises. When an adult is baptized, the responsibility is that of the baptized person. But a child of catechetical age is in an intermediate position. The child must ask for Baptism but can only do so with parental support and consent. The child must know something of the Christian tradition and have some understanding of the commitment that is being made, but it should also be understood that the child is entering upon a process of catechesis which does not end with the sacraments of initiation.
