OVERVIEW
St Roberts Church offers catechists a variety of opportunities for on-going formation and development. All catechists participate in an annual orientation session prior to beginning faith formation sessions. Throughout the year, catechists are invited to participate in catechetical conferences, formation sessions, and independent study, according to their personal development needs. After completing an independent study item, catechists need to complete a Catechist’s Learning Page (form here) and submit it to Teri Burns, the Director of Faith Formation, to receive credit toward certification.
The Diocese of Grand Rapids requires that all catechists participate in formation opportunities, awarding certification based on hours of learning:
· Basic Certification
o Level I – 8 hours
o Level II – 9-50 hours
· Advanced Certification – 80 hours
· Master Certification – Advanced certification plus 18 academic credit hours
Certified catechists are trained in four dimensions:
· The Person of the Catechist
· Content of the Faith
· The Learner
· Methods
Catechist Certification Application and Renewal Certification forms are available at
