Little is known about the history of the town but information taken from the old residents revealed that in the latter part of the Spanish regime, this town was a small fishing village north of Ragay Gulf at the mouth of Kilbay River. A little further to the north was a virgin forest that attracted much the attention of the Spanish traveler Don Juan del Gallego. Don Juan tried his luck in this unknown land. He erected his first lumber mill in sitio Pinagdacpan, about five kilometers up Kilbay River. In a few years, this lumber camp became a progressive community. The old man also erected a school, a chapel, and organized an orchestra.
