Blankets For The Homeless
Each year, in memory of Paul Heringer, we
continue to help the homeless. Donations can be made
to Mary Catherine Brooks who will purchase the wool
blankets and deliver them to the Parish
Kitchen. Wool army blankets and warm hats and
gloves are also in need. For more information, contact
Mary Catherine at 485-7104.
Parish Charity
The Parish Council, with my full support, has decided
to make a parish contribution to charity, a regular
part of our budget. Since our bills are so high now
(because of our debt for the new church) we will
have to start out small. We are going to donate 1%
of our weekly collection to three charities on a
rotating basis. The three charities are:
- The Hands of Mercy (our own parish group which helps people in the area);
- The Walton Ministerial Fund (a fund supported by all the churches in town to help transients);
- Mission Share (an organization begun by Fr. John McGuire, a priest of our diocese, now deceased, which helps struggling parishes in Latin America.)
I am so happy that we are beginning this
and I hope that as our own bills grow smaller, our
ability to help others will increase. I know that Our
Lord will bless our parish for helping those less
fortunate than ourselves. - Fr. John Schulte
