Annunciation Catholic Church

Principles of Catholic Social Teachings

Dignity of the Human Person

  • Belief in the inherent dignity of the human person is the foundation of all Catholic Social Teaching, because people are made in the image of God

Common Good & Community

  • Human dignity and the common good can only be realized and protected with others in community.  We are all God's creation together

Respect for Life

  • From conception to natural death...all phases of life

The Preferential Option for the Poor and Vulnerable

  • The option for the poor is an essential part of society's effort to achieve the common good. The moral test of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members, because deprivation and powerlessness wounds the whole community

Rights and Responsibilities

  • Every person has a fundamental right to life and those things required for human decency-starting with food, shelter, clothing, employment, health care, and education

Role of the Government

  • The Government must be a positive moral force to promote human dignity, protect human rights, and build the common good

Economic Justice and The Dignity of Work

  • The economy must serve the people.  All workers have a right to productive work, to decent and fair wages, and to safe working conditions

Stewardship and Care of the Earth....God's Creation

  • The goods of the earth are gifts from God.  They are intended by God for the benefit of everyone

Promotion of Peace and Disarmament

  • Peace is a positive action-oriented concept.  Peace is the fruit of justice and is dependent upon right order among human beings

Global Solidarity

  • We are one human family and called to work globally for justice.  Our responsibilities to each other cross national, racial, economic and ideological differences
