When we have Catechumens (Elect) who will be baptized at the Easter Vigil, we use the three great conversion stories: The Samaritan Woman, The Man born Blind, and the Raising of Lazurus. We celebrate the Three Scrutinies with our Elect and use these readings because of their intimate connection to preparation for baptism.
