+ Kapitan, John age 80 of Cleveland, fell asleep in the Lord suddenly on Thursday, September 21, 2006 at his residence in Cleveland. John was born on December 30, 1925 in St. Michael, Pa, the son of Andrew and Mary Kapitan. He retired from Guerin-Zimmerman in 1984, in Cleveland, Ohio after 35 years of service. John became a resident of Cleveland, Ohio after his discharge from the United States Navy in 1945, after the end of World War II. John was a very proud intelligent and private man, who loved to read and had a very strong devotion to the Byzantine Catholic Church, especially its church slavonic melodies. He is survived by his son, the Byzantine Franciscan Priest John, Jr., of Dayton, his sisters Helen Trisch of Phoenixville and Margaret Mihalick, Greensburg, Pennsylvannia. John was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Andrew, Jr. and his sister Anna Biros and his former wife Mary Krych Kapitan. His Requiem Divine Liturgy was held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at his church of over 50 years, Saint Gregory the Theologian Byzantine Catholic Church, Lakewood, Ohio. His Grace + John, the Eparch of Parma along with his Presbyter Son, Fr. John, the Eparchial Protosyncellus and other Cleveland area clergy concelebrated with Bishop John. Because of his honorable and dedicated service in World War II, he was accorded the United States Navy Honor Guard followed by his interment in Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Parma, Ohio.
