Belleville Cursillo Movement at PO Box 331, St. Libory, IL 62282 US - April, 2009 Secretariat Meeting Minutes

April, 2009 Secretariat Meeting Minutes

April, 2009

Cursillo Secretariat Minutes-April 06, 2009

Members in Attendance:  Julie Bostick, Donna Kocher, Roni Juracek, Bob McCormack, John & Karen Hermes, Joe & Ann Haubrich, Marie Rutter.

Julie led the meeting and called it to order. The group opened the meeting with the leader’s prayer and the Come Holy Spirit Prayer that Father Braun, O.M.I. wrote.  We read from Scripture:  John 12: 1-11, and the assembly discussed the passage.

Secretariat members emailed their concurrence with the February minutes to Julie.  All Secretariat members were in agreement with continuing the approval of meeting minutes by email.

The group broke into smaller clusters to discuss – “Am I ready to put aside all my attachments to worldly things and focus on Jesus especially during Holy Week?”

Karen gave the treasurer’s report.  Account balances as of April 06, 2009:

Regular savings account

$2,559.41

Checking account

$1,825.31

6 month CD

$9,195.87

Total bank balance

$13,580.59

There was a total of $8,285.00 collected during the Men’s and Women’s 2009 Cursillo weekends (this amount includes the collection basket passed at both closings, anonymous donations for both weekends, and the donations collected from candidates and team for both the men’s & women’s weekend costs.)

The total cost for the 2009 Cursillo weekends was $7,410.00 (DuBois Center charged $2,750 for Men’s weekend, $3,660 for Women’s, plus $1,000 total deposit for both weekends).  A recommendation was made to review the cost to charge for the weekend again next year.  The intent is to break even on costs to keep the weekend affordable.

The Secretariat voted unanimously to donate $75.00 to St. Agatha’s in New Athens for use of their facilities to host the 2009 Cursillo Reunion.

News from Pre-Cursillo included:

John will update the Candidate Application forms to include a spot for candidate email address.  John will send the revised Candidate Application to Marie Caddell to put on the Cursillo website, and to Roni to email out.  He will also get copies of the new application to the New Athens and Belleville Ultreyas for distribution.

News from Cursillo included:

The dates for the 2010 Cursillo weekends were discussed and selected at the previous School of Leaders.  Men’s weekend will be Feb. 04 to 07, 2010.  Women’s weekend will be Feb. 11 to 14, 2010

These dates for 2010 were discussed and approved by the Secretariat.

There was discussion about notifying the 2010 Rector & Rectora of the 2010 dates so they can contact the priests, spiritual advisors, etc. as early as possible to get the dates on their calendars.  It was discussed that someone should assist the Rector/Rectora to create a timetable for selecting team, deadlines for having talks written, deadlines for reviewing talks, etc.

Julie offered to review the “nuts & bolts” for the weekend with the Rector/Rectora:  i.e. rules about notifying songwriters before using songs, how to get the poster art, etc.

Roni Juracek made a motion, Bob McCormack seconded it, that Joe and Ann Haubrich should contact Charlie Skaer (2010 Rector) and Donna Kocher (2010 Rectora) about the 2010 Cursillo weekend dates.  The motion was voted on by the Secretariat and passed.

Joe Haubrich said that he was donating an incense censor from his nephew to Cursillo.

Other items that we need for the weekend include a paten with sides to hold Hosts for Communion, a Monstrance so we don’t have to borrow one, etc.

News from Post-Cursillo included:

Donna is working on the Grand Ultreya details – location, date in October, advertising, etc.

News from Public Relations included:

Roni asked if anyone had a clear photo from the 2009 Women’s Weekend.  The photo from the 2009 Men’s Weekend did not turn out.

Roni is ok with continuing to email out prayer requests, but she would like someone to take over writing articles for the Messenger, sending out cards, etc.

Evangelizer:  The deadline for submission of articles to the Evangelizer is June 21.

News from School of Leaders:  Next School of Leaders will be April 20, 7:00 PM in Freeburg.

Old Business:

There was discussion about the dates when terms end for positions on the Secretariat.

Newsletter Editor:         term ends April 2009

Public Relations:           term ends June 2009

Post Cursillo:                term ends Dec. 2009

The process is underway to select a new Editor for the Evangelizer Newsletter.

Everyone agreed that terms for the other positions could stretch out if needed so we don’t have a lot of positions on the Secretariat open at the same time.

There was discussion about a Cursillo Workshop to be put on by the Regional Service Team.  A date and location were selected:  Sept. 26, 2009 at St. Joe’s in Freeburg.  Julie will contact the Regional Service team and make sure this date works for them.

New Business:

A committee was formed from volunteers at the previous school of leaders for the selection of candidates for the next Newsletter Chairperson and Spiritual Advisor.

The committee members were Nick Lang, Roni Juracek, Bob McCormack, Donna Kocher, and Julie Bostick.

The Secretariat voted on the five candidates for the Newsletter Chairperson.  Julie Bostick will contact the person nominated for Newsletter Chairperson to see if that person is open to serving on the Secretariat.

The Secretariat also voted on the five candidates for the new Spiritual Advisor.  Julie Bostick will contact the person nominated for Spiritual Advisor to see if that person is open to serving on the Secretariat.

There was discussion about making sure the Lighthouse CD’s were passed around to Eldorado, New Athens, etc. Ultreyas.  Karen Hermes will put a mailing label on each CD showing that the CD’s belong to Cursillo, and the intent is to pass them along to other people when finished.

There was discussion about sending a letter to Eldorado and Mt. Carmel Cursillistas and ask them how the Secretariat could reach out to them and help them.  The distance people have to travel to get to Belleville or Freeburg for meetings is a hindrance.

Julie Bostick mentioned that Belleville Cursillo now has a link on the National Cursillo Website and on the Belleville Diocese website.

Next Secretariat meeting:  June 01, 2009

Roni made a motion to close the meeting, Karen Hermes seconded it, and the motion passed to adjourn.
