Worship is the heart of the Christian life. Saint James Chapel is the physical and spiritual heart of Bethany Center. The Chapel and the Stations of the Cross on Lake Mary offer places for worship, meditation and reflection.

The Chapel offers a magnificent view of creation. The natural feel of the setting is drawn inside complementing both the setting and St. James Chapel. The 12th of the 14 Stations of the Cross, which line the shore, may be seen through the windows at the center of the Chapel.

We remember at Eucharistic celebrations our Lord’s life giving death and resurrection. Saint James Chapel is a gift of the family of Joe and Jo Ann White in memory of their son James White. The bronze doors through which we enter are a unique and artistically stunning testimony to the faith of this generous family. They are symbolic of the new and eternal life we share through our Lord’s resurrection.

A room set aside for the Sacrament of Reconciliation is to the left in the main body of the Chapel. To the right of the reconciliation room is the Tabernacle, here we pause in meditation and thanksgiving before Christ present in the sacrament of the Altar. In the opposite transept stands an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Lord’s mother and the mother of our Church. The chapel is available for private prayer and meditation for groups of up to 250 people.  Groups may make arrangements for formal times for worship through the Center Office.


My house shall be called a house of prayer.
