Catechist Certification Credit for Catholic Way Bible Study
The Catholic Way Bible Study with Lavinia Spirito meets each Thursday morning with small group discussion at 8:45 a.m. and lecture at 9:30 a.m. ending at 11:00 a.m. in the basement of Christ the King Cathedral. A night class meets in the basement of Christ the King Cathedral on Thursdays 7:00-9:00pm to do the lesson on DVD. This year the morning class is doing Revelation, the night class Gospel of John.
For Certified Catechists
Participation in the Catholic Way Bible Study may be applied toward the requirement to maintain certification. Every three years, certified catechists are to log 30 clock hours of continuing work in the area of Religious Education. Hours of participation in the program should be recorded on a maintenance sheet. Upon the completion of the required 30 clock hours, the maintenance sheet should be forwarded to your pastor or parish DRE/CRE, who will then notify the Diocesan Office of Religious Education.
For Catechists Working Toward Certification
Catechists participating in the Catholic Way Bible Study may receive credit toward certification under the following conditions:
1. Catechists must inform the parish DRE/CRE, principal or pastor of their participation in the Catholic Way Bible Study.
2. Catechists must attend all lectures of the series.
3. Catechists must satisfactorily complete all homework assignments
Verification of attendance and homework completion (from the instructor) is to be submitted to the parish DRE/CRE, principal or pastor.
4. The parish DRE/CRE, principal or pastor must then inform the Diocesan Office of Religious Education that the catechist has satisfactorily completed the requirements.
If the aforementioned conditions are satisfied, credit toward certification can be achieved in the subject area of Scripture.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Doug Culp, Diocesan Director of Religious Education and Adult Faith Formation at 859-253-1993 ext 221 or Lavinia Spirito at (859) 321-0664.
