For several years, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has been planning for a future with fewer priests. Discussion in the Dayton Deanery has been an ongoing process for quite some time. We have come to realize that in the not-so-distant future, not all parishes will have a full-time pastor. Many will need to share a pastor with one or more parishes. When will this situation becpme reality? Under current circumstances, it is estimated that within the next seven to ten years the changes will occur. And so it is imperative that plans be made now. In 2005, pastoral regions were formed in the Dayton Deanery in response to this planning. One of those regions consists of St. Christopher Parish in Vandalia and St. John the Baptist Parish in Tipp City. Since the region was formed, representatives from both parishes along with their pastors have been meeting, putting together plans for collaboration and cooperation, anticipating the day when one priest will pastor both churches. To date, the parishes have had a pulpit exchange of pastors, a concert featuring liturgical musicians, and a luncheon at which the staff of both parishes came together for fellowship and sharing. Representatives from both parishes continue to meet on a regular basis and a conference is scheduled for September 2006 to discuss additional ways of cooperation. Please visit this page on our website to keep informed on the latest happenings in the development of the regional partnership.
