Health Ministry
MISSION: To serve the parish community as a holistic health resource for the enhancement of God's gifts of body, mind, and spirit.
BACKGROUND: The St. Christopher Parish Health Ministry began in October 2000. The ministry is composed of health care professionals and lay volunteers. The ministry has provided monthly blood pressure screenings, flu vaccinations, cholesterol and blood sugar screenings, occult blood screenings, yearly blood drives, CPR classes, and other health programs such as "Walk 50 Miles in 50 Days" and the "Portion Plate" nutrition program. A bulletin board located in the church Gathering Space provides health information, pamphlets, and seminar information.
PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES:
Blood pressure Screenings: Held after Masses on the fourth weekend of the month in the Bridal Room.
Card Ministry: Cards are sent to home-bound parishioners and Catholic residents of Vandalia Park and Hearth & Home extended care facilities.
Prayer Shawl Ministry: A group of women meet twice a month after the Wednesday 8:10 am Mass in the Candle Room to knit or crochet prayer shawls. The completed shawls have a prayer attached to them and blessed by Father Keferl. These are given to anyone who is ill, having surgery, or needs comfort. For more information, contact Elaine Fortkamp at 454-5247.
MEETINGS: Held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm in the Parish Center. For more information about the Parish Health Ministry or to volunteer, contact Joanne Lauber at 890-5662.
