January 20, 2005 Dear Alumni of the Newman Club/Catholic Student Union, Greetings! For years, the staff of St. Thomas More Parish has been hard at work helping the students of Florida State University seek God through prayer, community and service. We hope this letter evokes many fond memories of the Newman Club/Catholic Student Union from your particular time at FSU. Since for many of you it has been years since we have had any direct contact, we want to take a brief moment to reintroduce ourselves. At a time when good news seems so hard to come by, our experience is that young people are eager to hear and respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Presently CSU is one of the largest and most active student organizations on campus. In fact, not only are our weekly events packed, we regularly must turn away students from our retreats and other special events-there's just not enough room, staff resources or funds to properly care for them! It is particularly encouraging that after graduation many of our students bring their Catholic faith out into the world blessing their workplaces, communities and local parishes. In fact, numerous alumni have devoted a year to volunteer service, several lay youth and campus ministers are now currently serving around the country, solid Catholic family life is faithfully lived and in the last ten years, about twenty alumni of CSU have responded to the call to serve as priests and religious men and women. It gives us great joy to share some of blessings experienced at the Catholic Student Union with you, for a bit more information about our regular events please take a moment to read the enclosed brochure. We look forward to renewing our friendship with you, our alumni, and will be getting back to you soon with ways that you might aid us in our mission to the next generation of Catholics, the hope of the Church.
