Welcome to the
Co-Cathedral of
St. Thomas More!
On October 8, 1967 the Most Reverend Joseph P. Hurley blessed and dedicated the student center and chapel at Florida State Univeristy in Tallahassee, Florida. By 1970 there were 2,500 Catholic students and the number has grown each year. Shortly after becoming bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine, the Most Reverend Paul Tanner raised the chapel to the status of student parish. On October 7, almost eight years to the day after the dedication by Archbishop Hurly, the student parish of St. Thomas More was elevated to the dignity of Co-Catheral within the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, first under Bishop Rene H. Gracida, then Bishop J. Keith Symons, then Bishop John M. Smith, and now Bishop John H. Ricard. Four priests have served as rectors: Monsignor William A. Kerr, Monsignor A. James Amos, Reverend Charles W. Roland, Monsignor Michael W. Tugwell, Monsignor C. Slade Crawford, and currently Monsignor Michael W. Tugwell.
