The diocese has received 2053 allegations against these 35 priests. 72 of these allegations were against one priest. Of the 35 priests, 16 are deceased and 5 are laicized. 14 are permanently removed from active ministry. 1 No money has been expended for sexual abuse cases from parish assessments, from the sale of real estate or from the Diocesan Annual Appeal. All monies expended have either been paid directly by the diocese’s insurers or from accumulated investment income. 2 In the August 2003 report, the total number of priests reported (372) included Lexington priests who were ordained since 1988, when the Lexington Diocese was created. The numbers reported above exclude Lexington priests who never served in the Diocese of Covington. 3 Seven of the 205 allegations are from persons for whom we have no names.
