The Interpretation
Mean Normal Curve Equivalent (NCE) score uses 50.0 as the score received by an average student. For example, the 66.0 (NCE) Total Battery score received by Grade 1 indicates an above average test result. NCE numbers are helpful when comparing scores from different test instruments.
The Median National Percentile (MNP) score is a score that divides the distribution in half. A 76 MNP indicate that half of the NP scores were above 76 and half were below 76. The National Percentile is the percentage of students who scored below a student's score. For example, a 76 (NP) received by Grade 7 student indicates that 75 out of every 100 students in the National norm group scored below the average score for Grade 7 students . It also means that 14 out of every 100 students scored above the average score for Grade 7 students. .
Along with these scores, another important indicator is the Obtained Achievement Score verses the Anticipated Achievement Score (See Below).

Anticipated scores are based on the In View Test of Cognitive Skills. This test offers a prediction of how well a student will perform on various components of the Terra Nova. Students in Grades 3 and above are given this test.
The average scores for students in the Diocesan Elementary schools resulted in the Obtained score meeting or exceeding the Anticipated score in all areas of the test. (A difference is considered meaningful if the Obtained Score is 7 points (+ or -) different than the Anticipated Score.
