Dear Pastors, Parochial Administrators, and Parish Life Collaborators:
As the newly appointed Director of Stewardship and Mission Services, it is my pleasure to inform you that our Diocesan Domestic Needs Combined Collection will be conducted the last weekend of August, August 29th and 30th. Enclosed in today’s mailing is a Parish Handbook to assist you in conducting this special Appeal. The handbook includes bulletin inserts, pulpit announcements, prayers of the faithful, a reporting form, and information on each of the six Appeals that are combined into this one Collection.
All registered households will receive an Appeal letter under my signature, a brochure and a Diocesan remittance envelope during the week of August 17th. As you know, Diocesan envelopes do not replace the envelopes included in your parish envelope box. Diocesan envelopes are usually used by households not registered in a parish, those too ill to attend mass, those who will be out of town on Collection Weekend, and by those who do not attend mass on a regular basis. The gifts received from these Diocesan envelopes help to increase Collection receipts significantly, are credited to the donor’s parish.
The six Catholic Campaigns combined into our one Collection include:
- The Catholic Communications Campaign
- The Catholic Campaign for Human Development
- The National Black and Indian Mission Appeal
- The Catholic Home Mission Appeal
- The Catholic University of America
- Thomas More College
All of these ministries help “Strengthen Your Church at Home” by sponsoring evangelization programs, attacking poverty at the root level, keeping church doors open, providing religious education, and spreading the “Good News” through the media.
If you have any questions, or if there is any way in which I can help you, please let me know. I can be reached by phone at (859) 392-1543 or by e-mail at mmurray@covingtondiocese.org.
On behalf of all of the men, women and children who will benefit from gifts to this Collection, I thank you so very much for your assistance. May God bless you and those you serve.
Sincerely,
Mike Murray, Diocesan Director
Stewardship and Mission Services
