Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church at 303 Keller Ave., North Judson, IN 46366-1209 US - Our Hidden Window!

Our Hidden Window!

Cyril and Methodius Stained Glass Window
Until Friday, April 11, 2003, very few living residents of North Judson had ever seen the stained glass window shown here. Only a few parishioners at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church even knew it existed, despite the fact it is located directly above the front door they have entered thousands of times. The window depicts the images of our patrons Cyril and Methodius. When the present pipe organ was installed in the church some 60 years ago, the swell box covered the window making it no longer visible from the interior. Insulation was installed over the window on the inside to minimize temperature variations in the swell box which were affecting organ tuning. With no light penetrating from the inside, the window had a dark opaque appearance from the outside. Recently, the insulation was removed and backlighting was installed to make the images of Cyril and Methodius visible from the outside at night. The window was installed when the church was built in 1910. The panels at the bottom of the window say it was a "Gift of Frank Prokop." The last name is apparently abbreviated. The window is illuminated nightly and is visible from the front of the church on Keller Avenue.
