4 Part Programming: Making Youth Ministry Volunteer Friendly! |
4 part programming is what we at CYRO call "Volunteer Friendly" youth ministry. To often we find one person to run are youth ministry programming and put the entire burden of day in and day out content on their shoulders. This is a bogus method of running great youth ministry programs at your parish. The Renewing the Vision Document gives us Eight outstanding components of youth Ministry (Catechesis, Community Life, Evangelization, Prayer and Worship, Justice and Servic, Pastoral Care, Advocacy and Leadership). We believe that all of these components need to be simplified into volunteer friendly effective youth ministry. 4 part programming does not seek to replace the components. Rather, it molds them into functional models that invite more volunteers to create great youth ministry in their small worshipping communities. 4 part programming suggests four volunteers (two minimum). For some faith communities, this can be overwhelming. For others, you have to many volunteers and nothing for them to do. 4 part programming seeks to give clear expectations to volunteers with minimum responsibility that adds up to better comprehensive youth ministry! It's like this: Break your youth ministry year into four parts (hence the name). Assign one part to each volunteer (or two parts to both volunteers if your numbers are limited). Make volunteers responsible only for their section of programming. All volunteers are asked to be present at each youth gathering to help other volunteers with content, etc. However, their primary time investment (as regards preparation, etc.) only includes their "part." This softens the responsibility to individual volunteers and welcomes unique perspective from various sources. Click HERE for 4 Part Outline, Instructions and Assistance.
