Zanzibar Diocese at P.O. Box 294, Zanzibar, ZW n/a TZ - Tomondo School Rectory

Tomondo School Rectory

The idea to have a house for the Priests in the compound of the school of Francis Maria Libermann School (FMLS) at Tomondo has come to actualization. This idea was there since the beginning of the school so that the students may get assistance particularly spiritual and moral help.

The house Started as Classrooms 22.April, 2002. After the shortage of the classrooms was solved we began to renovate it into four rooms for the priests who will be residing in Tomondo school, making also an extension of a recreation room, kitchen, store and a shower room with WC. The work to renovate the house started 15. April, 2005.

The Rt. Rev. Bishop Augustine Shao C.S.Sp on 22. April 2006 inaugurated officially the house for the priests who will be residing at the school compound. At present there are 2 priests assigned at the school; The Director Rev. Fr. Cosmas Shayo and the deputy director Rev. Fr. Damas Mfoi. The two priests will start residing in this new house which has four self contained rooms, seating room, kitchen, store and one WC and one shower room for the visitors.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, the Rt. Rev. Bishop Donald Wuerl supported us in a great way not only for this house but also for the construction of the structures that already exist in FMLS. Bishop Shao extended his sincere gratitude to the bursar of the school and to Rev. Father Damas Mfoi for their great effort made during the construction of the Father’s rectory. He further thanked the late Rev. Bishop Bernard Ngaviliau for his effort to obtain the land. Last but not least he thanked the engineer Mr. Raphael Mabagala who gave out the plans and step by step supervising the construction till the end. The total amount spent for the construction is 38,765,450/- TShs.
