The Federal Communications Commission has granted construction licenses for two new Catholic radio stations to be established in southern Missouri. Although located within the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, both radio stations will be owned and operated by local laypersons within the Catholic community. Padua Media and Covenant Network have taken the initiatives, filing last year with the FCC for their respective licenses. The Catholic radio stations will span the Springfield area on the west side of southern Missouri and also on the east side of the state in Dexter, Sikeston and parts of Cape Girardeau. Both stations hope to be broadcasting before their official launch deadline, which is 2011. Bishop James V. Johnston endorses these efforts by saying, “The associations’ hope is to provide Catholic programming in areas of southern Missouri which do not have the benefit of such programming at this time. It is my hope and prayer that this new endeavor will bear much fruit and bring many people to the Lord through the teaching of the Catholic Church.” “Establishing the Catholic radio station here in southwest Missouri is Padua Media's gift to all of us. It is because of their love of Church and their love of their Catholic brothers and sisters that they took this leap of faith and perused the radio broadcast license. And because of this generous spirit, southern Missouri will be the better for it.” Become an member/volunteer. Send an email today.
