Canadians of Italian origin face challenges similar to those faced by other ethnic groups of Canada. One of the major challenges we face in a changing society is the unavoidable conflict of values that occurs between generations, and also within oneself as one tries to sort, blend or choose between the values of one’s past and present. This clash of values is no more evident than in the realm of marriage and family. It is upon the strength of a marriage that a family’s health is dependent upon and it is within the child/parent relationship that morals and values are challenged, accepted or rejected and the next generation is shaped.

Famiglia believes the two pillars our immigrant forefathers based their lives upon are faith and family. Our Italian Canadian culture has been shaped by strong family values and the Catholic faith and it is from these two pillars that our core values originate from, and our identity and contribution to Canada are defined by.

Famiglia’s mission is to strengthen marriages that are the foundation of new families, support the family which is the basic unit of society, assist parents who are the transmitters of morals, values and traditions to the next generation, and lead all family members to deepen their faith in God, who is the source of all goodness and truth.

Famiglia seeks to continue the dialogue between family, faith and culture and be a resource sensitive to the unique experience and needs of all families.

Famiglia is a lay organization born out of the Italian Canadian Catholic Community, faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church for guidance in what it seeks to communicate and build for the benefit of all families within Canadian society.
