Good Shepherd Church at 214 South Garland Avenue, Garland, TX 75040 US - St. Vincent de Paul Society
|St. Vincent de Paul Society|
SVDP is a worldwide organizations made up of volunteers whose purpose is to give assistance to the poor.
The term "poor" may be misleading. When most people think of the poor, they picture people in ragged clothes, with hardly any food and living in a small shanty. There are people who fit that description, even here in Garland.
However, the term “poor” refers to a lot of different conditions. These people have probably been poor all of their lives and so have their parents and grandparents. They know only poverty. Other types of “poor” are people who have recently lost their jobs and need temporary help. The elderly on fixed incomes need help because of extra expenses and others because of illness have had a financial set back.
There are no income boundaries, race boundaries, religious or ethnic boundaries. The St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference of Good Shepherd Catholic Church is fully funded and run by the parishioners of Good Shepherd. We do work with other organizations in assisting those in need. Our first concern is for the families in our parish, but we help whenever there is a need.
There are many ways in which you can help us. Remember that we are a fully volunteer organization and depend totally on contributions from Good Shepherd parishioners. We receive no government funding of any kind. Collections are taken up 5 times a year to support our ministry. WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED OF BILINGUAL VOLUNTEERS. Please call 972-276-8587 if you can help!!
We invite you to join us in this ministry. Please leave your name and telephone number in the parish office and we will get in touch with you.
We are one SVDP conference but there are two meeting groups. Both groups meet in the Parish Center (1224 Main Street) in Room C. One group meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at Hope to see you there.
