Guardian Angels Catholic Church at 6000 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40219 US - Preparing for the baptism of your infant child

Preparing for the baptism of your infant child

The baptism of your infant child is very important to the members of Guardian Angels parish.  We realize that when you request your child be baptized here, you are asking us to help you pass on the Catholic faith to your child.  Your personal spirituality will be the building blocks upon which we will add our own traditions and beliefs relating to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

We are glad when people want to have their children baptized into our community of believers.  We consider it an honor, as well as a responsibility.  We will do what needs to be done to properly inform and educate the parents, guardians, and sponsors (godparents) so that the baptism will be a spiritual and life-enriching experience.

Infant baptism is for children of parish members who are under the age of eight.  Our preparation program is designed around family participation with sessions for parents, guardians, and sponsors (godparents).  There are two "preparation" sessions that last for about 90 minutes each.  During the sessions we talk about the meaning of baptism in the Catholic tradition, the role of the parents and sponsors, and the role of the parish community.

Children who have reached "Catechetical age" (over the age of seven) are considered "adults" and participate in a more in-depth preparation program.  These children also receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist at the same Mass as their baptism.

In order for our faith community to celebrate with and welcome new members to our church family, baptisms are usually held during the weekend liturgies.

The two preparation sessions for parents, guardians and sponsors are held on Tuesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.  For additional information please contact Bruce Jacobs at 968-5421.

Our next infant baptisms have not been scheduled.  Please check back for the date.
