HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This Thursday, November 26, we celebrate the feast of Thanksgiving with a special Mass of Thanksgiving at 9:00 a.m. It is a wonderful way to start the day as we gather as a family of faith around our table, the Eucharist, to remember the many reasons we have for thanks and to offer worship to God as we begin our holiday.  Each family in attendance will receive a small loaf of bread to break at your own table along with a short prayer with the opportunity for each person present to reflect on their own personal reasons for thanks.  I've been celebrating this tradition of bread baking at Thanksgiving for 20 years.  Many people comment about how meaningful this tradition has become for their own families.  A parishioner told me that his family had a number of family tensions and as each person broke bread and spoke about their reasons for thanks, everyone ended up in tears and a reconciliation within the family resulted.  Another parishioner told of how their family ritual took over 30 minutes to complete because people were so filled with gratitude, they couldn't stop sharing their stories and how much the ritual brought their family closer together.  She said, "our Thanksgiving celebration will never be the same and the breaking of bread before the meal will be done always now”.  Please join us for our parish Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday at
9:00 a.m.

Generations of Faith takes place next weekend, November 29 and 30.  The topic will be, "Praying Through Advent."  The sessions are on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Please register for the event by going to our website: www.holyangelschurch.com, calling  (440) 543-7217  (440) 543-7217 , ext. 333, or picking up a registration form from the Kiosk in the Gathering Area and returning it to the Parish Office.

This is the 6th year of Generations of Faith and we will evaluate the program next spring. While Generations of Faith is encouraged for everyone in the parish, it is a requirement for the PSR program, however, only about 15% of those students who could have attended, did.  If you have a child in PSR, we encourage both your participation and your feed back  as well.

Today we end our liturgical year with the Feast of Christ the King.  Our Gospel readings this year have been primarily from the Gospel of Mark.  Next week we begin our new liturgical year with Advent and an emphasis on the Gospel of Luke.  Luke writes much about the miracles of Jesus, as well as how the prophesy of the Old Testament is fulfilled through Christ.  We look forward to your joining us throughout this new liturgical year as we explore the Gospel of Luke.

Have a terrific week!

Fr. Dan

Arc-Angels for Life

Congress is preparing to debate health care reform legislation on the House and Senate floors.  Genuine health care reform should protect the life and dignity of all people from the moment of conception until natural death.  For the full text of the bishop's letter regarding this important matter and for more information on proposed legislation and the bishops' advocacy for authentic health care reform, visit www.usccb.org/healthcare.  Congressional leaders are attempting to put together final bills for floor consideration.  Please contact your Representative and Senators today and urge them to fix these bills with the pro-life amendments noted below.  Otherwise much needed health care reform will have to be opposed.  Health care reform shoudl be about saving lives, not destroying them.
