Holy Spirit School at 2222 Lake Michigan Dr NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 US - History

History

Since opening its doors in 1953, Holy Spirit School has developed an outstanding reputation for a program of academic excellence in a Christian atmosphere.  Religious education and formation continue to be the primary purpose of our Catholic School.  This philosophy is lived out in a four-fold commitment to the message of Jesus Christ:  building Christian community, serving others, reaching out to those in need, and bringing our hopes, plans, and failures before the Lord in prayer.

A beautiful six-classroom addition was completed in August of 1989.  The former parish convent was converted into the Child Development Center in 1991.  The Preschool, Child Care, and Latchkey Programs are located there.  The computer lab and library were moved into the Media Center (our former church) in the fall of 1994.  In the summer of 2000, we underwent our 4th renovation project, which provided a new administrative office area, an Advanced Learning Center, and offices for many of our support staff members.  This renovation also included the renovation and updating of the school library, computer lab and staff lounge.  In the summer of 2004, the Computer Lab was updated with 29 new PC’s.  Also in 2004, Holy Spirit School was awarded the Freedom to Learn Grant allowing us to provide one-to-one wireless computing technology with Hewlett Packard laptops for our 6th grade students.  We are excited about the additional educational opportunities that have been afforded our students with this “new and improved” technology.
