Altar Society News

As we get closer to the end of 2008, I have spent some time reflecting back on the events we have hosted this year.  Two things are crystal clear, there is a very dedicated group of people I can count on to help work the events and I cannot thank them enough for all of their hard work.  The second thing is that we need a better show of support from our parishioners.  If there is something that is keeping you from attending our events or supporting us, please talk to me about the problem.  The Altar Society is here for the Parish, we have invited all adult members to join us and continue to have only a handful of people at our meetings.  We need your ideas and suggestions to improve, to change and to grow.  The money we raise from Breakfasts and Bazaars is given back to the Parish General fund.  Our next regular meeting is not until January 22, 2009, at 6:00 so you have plenty of time to think about coming and mark your calendars!

In thinking about our Holy Trinity Altar Society, we have had a fairly successful start to our year.  In September we hosted a Grandparents Day Breakfast and we were grateful to the people who came and supported our efforts.  Thanks to the advertising efforts of Kathy Ivancic, we had some diners from other parishes; we still did not have a full house.  In October, we hosted a Chili Cook-Off. This was the first time we tried this type of event and I think the small crowd had a great time.  We ended up with four Chili recipes to taste and a whole lot of Chili to sell.  Thankfully, all the prize winners declined their cash prizes so we made a profit of $47.00.  I find it hard to believe that with all of the great cooks in our parish only four entries were submitted.  I know we have some great chili makers out there so we’ll try again next year and hope to improve attendance and Chili Cookers!

We just had our Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 15th and it was very successful.  We had a steady crowd all day, great food to eat and it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves.  Our Bake Goods table and boutique could have used a few more donations, but we are grateful for the goodies we had to sell, strudel, noodles, pies, cakes and jams sold out very quickly.

We also got an added bonus, working with the Parish Partners, the St. Barnabas MOMS collected used clothing, toys, household items and linens.  They brought all of this great stuff to Holy Trinity on Friday night and set up a Free For All, Recycling event.  On Saturday, bazaar goers were able to browse and take whatever they wanted.  There was a lot of great stuff on the second floor of Bockhold Hall, two rooms plus the hallway was filled.  There were even bikes and TVs! . . . For FREE!  A big thanks to Tracy Brown and the MOMS group of Saint Barnabas.  The Free For All event brought joy to many people in our community.

Our Parish Christmas Party will be on Sunday, December 14th after the 10:00 Mass, we figure it’s really never too early to get the celebration started with our fellow parishioners.  We’ll have food, games, music and door prizes for all ages.  You’ll receive a special invitation in the mail and we hope you will RSVP and attend.  The party is for all ages.  It will be a wonderful way to celebrate Christ’s birth as a parish.  Please plan to join us.
