SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS OF HOLY TRINITY PARISH
90th Anniversary Rendition
Dear Family and Friends of Holy Trinity,
As I write you I hope this Lenten season has been rich in blessings for you. Through your practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving I hope you have gained a greater awareness of God’s presence in your life and are feeling nudged to respond.
Many wonderful things have been happening at Holy Trinity this past month. Our annual Reverse Raffle was quite possibly the best yet. We had are largest crowd ever and those attending had a wonderful spirit and energy about them. The organizing and planning team did a fantastic job. Thanks to all who worked on this annual fundraiser.
This month Holy Trinity, in conjunction with St. Anthony, started a parish based renewal program called Christ Renews His Parish. This parish renewal program has been a blessing to many parishes and I believe will help Holy Trinity to be renewed in our relationship with Christ. Our next weekends for women and for men will be in September, so keep us in your prayers and consider participating in Christ Renews His Parish.
As we enter into the Passion of Jesus and celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday I invite you to consider the impact of your faith in your life. In his death, Jesus defeated death and the power of sin. Have you permitted your faith in Jesus to have power over sin in your life? The season of Lent invited you to introduce some spiritual practices into your life. What spiritual practices will you carry on or introduce into your spiritual life during this Easter season? During the mass on the Easter Vigil we sing the great “Exsultet”, the Easter Proclamation of God’s Victory. How will you proclaim God’s victory to those who are a part of your life. Many Catholics often say that faith is a private matter. However, this viewpoint is inconsistent with the Gospel and the call of discipleship. We are called to share the gift of our faith, even as we respect others in a plural society. This Easter Season may you be bold in professing your faith in Jesus and invite others to know him. While you are at it, don’t be shy in coming to visit us at Holy Trinity. We have been saving you a seat.
Peace and Easter Blessings to you!
Love,
Fr. John

Josh. 1:9
“Be strong and of good courage: for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Once we truly trust in God, we will have the courage to take risks. We will have the courage to turn our lives over to God. We will have the courage to stand up for our beliefs, no matter the opposition or unpopularity of our stance. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. . .” (Psalms 23:1)

UPDATE ON HOLY FAMILY SHELTER & BOCKHOLD HALL
Holy Family Shelter: If you haven’t had an opportunity to drive past the front of Holy Trinity lately, you might want to come by and take a look. The new Holy Family Shelter is finally under construction. For several weeks we saw a lot of activity but not much evidence of construction. But much activity was going on during the winter months building the infrastructure - preparing the ground, installing underground wiring and plumbing, and laying the foundation. This week we have seen the walls of the first story going up, and will soon see the walls of two additional floors. Naturally there is a long way to go before this project is completed. But it is surely nice to see that empty lot beginning to fill up. Completion of the Holy Family Shelter is expected by Thanksgiving.
For several weeks the new boiler has been installed in the church basement, but is no operational. The heating fans in the church continue to run, but soon will not be needed with the coming of warm weather and air conditioning. The temporary elevator that the archdiocese installed in front of the church to provide handicap access is still not usable because it still does not meet state inspection requirements. The contractors are still working with the state to get it approved.

Our Beloved Bockhold Hall
Bockhold Hall Roof Nears Completion: At the March 18th meeting of the Holy Trinity Stewardship Commission, it was reported that the replacement roof for Bockhold Hall is nearly complete. With just a few final details remaining, the work that began last summer is finally coming to conclusion. It has been a long process marked by some unfortunate delays that pushed the work into 2009. However, this replacement by our capable roofers, Blackmore and Buckner will ensure a dry Bockhold Hall for many years to come.
The old roof has been removed, drains have been reconfigured, a new hatch has been installed, and a new membrane has been sealed in place. Top it off with gravel ballast and the new roof is completed. Most parishioners will never have an opportunity to see the new roof, but rest assured it is in place and our work at Bockhold Hall can continue with other projects. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to our roof raising efforts. The focus now turns to the masonry issues on Bockhold Hall and window replacements. More to come in later Trinitarians.

Featured Potica Lady
Nikki Brown in the kitchen
in Bockhold Hall
Nikki Androjna Brown is a vital member of the Potica Ministry. Anytime that Nikki is gone, which is not often, we definitely notice. She really keeps us moving and on task with our routine, especially when it is time to add the filling to the rolled out dough.
Nikki’s parents were both from Yugoslavia. Her mother was a Komlanc and was one of ten children. Her parents met in Yugoslavia and married after each came to Haughville. Nikki was born and raised in Haughville. A midwife that lived on Michigan Street delivered her. She has two brothers. Nikki attended Holy Trinity School and Washington High School. Her first job was at a peanut factory on McCarty Street.
William Brown was Nikki’s husband. They had two children, William and Cindy. Her son lives in Indianapolis and her daughter in Noblesville. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren grace her life.
Nikki is proud to have worked at Indiana Bell for 36 years. Her last job there was in the reproduction department. She enjoys playing bingo and spending time with her potica pals. She started baking potica with Joan Domogalik. She is well-liked by everyone she knows. Thank you for years of service for the parish of Holy Trinity.
Coming next month: Frances Fisher will be featured.

Our ladies have been busy baking for everyone’s Easter tradition. Do all of you remember when we would take our homemade wine, potica, and sausage to be blessed? Easter breakfast was, and still is for many Slovenian households, sliced eggs and sausage with fresh horseradish shredded over the top of the plate of delicacies. Sliced potica and wine finished out the traditional Easter treat. That is always my favorite breakfast of the year.
The supply of potica is good. We hope that many of you will purchase your potica from our potica committee at Holy Trinity. Let your friends know that we have them. I always send a potica to the members of my family that live out of town. The cost is $20.00 per loaf.
Pick-up times are Wednesdays from noon until 2:30 p.m., and after the 10:00 a.m. mass on Sunday. Call Gloria at 634-8025 for special pick-up times. New this year we will have someone at Holy Trinity on Good Friday afternoon, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., and Holy Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Ring the doorbell at Bockhold Hall to pick up your Easter potica.
Have a blessed Easter season.

St. Vincent De Paul News
Our Saturday schedule at the Warehouse has been changed. Our next Saturday to volunteer is May 2nd. Please mark your calendar. It would be great if Holy Trinity would have some volunteers that day. Our other Saturdays will be June 13th, July 25th, September 12th, October 17th, and December 5th.
Our Pantry is struggling to keep food on the shelves. We have been blessed with donations from Speedway AARP and St. Barnabas. Please consider donating a can of food each week. We very seldom get donations of fruit. Aldi has fruit for 80¢ a can.
Our meeting will continue on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month at 6:00 p.m. in Bockhold Hall.
There is a great need for donations to the Warehouse. Almost anything is needed, especially stoves, washers, dryers, refrigerators, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, small appliances and furniture. Call 687-1006 for a Saturday pick-up. Trucks will not pick up clothes only but will take clothes if there are appliances or furniture too.

CHRIST RENEWS HIS PARISH
One of Father John’s dreams for our parish has been to introduce “Christ Renews His Parish” to Holy Trinity. Christ Renews is an ongoing program of personal and spiritual renewal featuring separate weekend retreats for men or for women, followed up by a period of “formation”. The purpose of Christ Renews is to strengthen our own relationship with God and to increase awareness of our personal calling to witness to our faith and God’s love for us within our families, our parish, and our world. The retreats are typically held in a parish every six months until every adult parishioner has had an opportunity to participate.
The “Christ Renews His Parish” movement began shortly after Vatican Council II in the early 1970s. These retreats have been ongoing in several parishes in the archdiocese for many years. They are conducted by your own lay parishioners. After a team of parishioners has had an opportunity to participate in one of these weekend retreats and undergone a period of formation, they in turn present the next weekend retreat to another group of fellow parishioners, and so on. St. Monica’s parish has by now conducted over sixty seasons of Christ Renews retreats over thirty years, with hundreds – even thousands – of parishioners having participated. Christ Renews weekends are being held in literally dozens of parishes around the archdiocese.
On the weekend of March 14 and 15, the men of Holy Trinity and St. Anthony parishes held their first Christ Renews His Parish retreat. It was a very moving and inspirational weekend, and was presented to nine men from both St. Anthony and Holy Trinity by an outreach team of thirteen men from six different parishes, all of whom had been through Christ Renews in their home churches. In addition groups of parishioners from several parishes provided free meals to our participants.
Thirteen years ago I myself participated in such a weekend. It was also my privilege to be a member of the presenting team for the men of Holy Trinity and St. Anthony a couple weeks ago. For me personally Christ Renews was a life-changing experience, and a transformational experience for my parish of St. Barnabas – my parish has never been the same since. One of the lessons learned from Christ Renews is that it is not just priests and religious who are called to grow in a deeper relationship with God. Christ Renews was for me an introduction to a “lay spirituality” of our own, and made me aware that each of us is called to be a disciple, to witness our faith to one another, and to exercise our own ministry of spreading the Good News of a loving God by the example of our lives and service to one another.
All your needs will be taken care of on this weekend. There is no charge: free lodging, free meals, plenty of prayer and inspiration, and joyful fellowship with good friends. I encourage every adult parishioner to accept the challenge to attend one of these weekends. The next Christ Renews His Parish weekends will be held next fall: for women on September 12 and 13; for men on September 26 and 27. Mark your calendars now.
