Holy Trinity School at 1304 Alpine Church Road NW, Comstock Park, MI 49321-9765 US - October 30th, newsletter

October 30th, newsletter

Dear Parents,

November is the month we offer prayers to remember those who have died. It is also a time to thank God for the harvest. Sunday is the actual feast of All Saints Day. Monday is All Souls Day, a day set aside to remember our friends and relatives who have died. The school will have a Book of Memory for students to write in names of anyone they know who has died. This list of people will be added to our prayer intentions for the month and brought to our Monday morning gatherings. Student Council is also sponsoring a memorial wall where students can purchase a paper candle and write the name of the person they would like to be remembered during the month. This display will be on the wall outside the school office. All monies collected will be donated to DeVos Children’s Hospital.

The end of the first quarter was yesterday, October 29th. Report cards will be sent home on Monday, November 2nd so that you have time to look the report over and discuss it with your child before conferences. You should have received a confirmation of your assigned time. If we did not receive a slip from you, a conference time was assigned. If you cannot make the assigned time, please call Pam in the school office to reschedule. She has the master list of all grade levels. With conferences, there is a half day of school on Thursday with an 11:20 dismissal and no school on Friday. There will be transportation both ways on Thursday for Catholic Secondary students but Kenowa students will need to find their own transportation home.

Students in grades 2-8 will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills next week. Students in grades 3, 5 and 7 will also be taking an additional abilities test. Many of the younger grades have taken practice test this week so they have an idea how the process works. Please make sure your child has #2 sharpened pencils at school to take the test. We, as a staff, would encourage your child to have had a good nights sleep, have eaten a good breakfast and arrive to school on time and ready to go so that he/she will be well prepared for the day. All of these tasks will contribute to a positive testing experience. This is the fourth year for the Iowa test that matches many of the state benchmarks and correlates to our Diocesan curriculum. The results will be used to compare individual student growth, classroom growth and possible areas of concern where skills/texts might need to be reviewed within a classroom.

Picture Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. This is for the 2 day preschool program, any student that was ill on the last picture day or any student who wants their picture retaken. If getting retakes, the picture package must be returned to school. A dress up day will be allowed for anyone having their picture taken.

Since next week is a shorter week with conferences, there will no school office newsletter. I will be out of the building on Thursday, November 12th for an all day Diocesan principals' meeting.
God Bless,

Kathy Rand
