Altar Serving Practice: On Monday, February 6, Mr. Zost came to speak to the fourth graders about upcoming altar serving practice. Students should have given this information to their parents. If you have not seen this information, practice will be held after the 10:30 mass this Sunday. Or you can contact Ken Zost for more information.
February Reading Goal: During the month of February, students will once again be asked to read two books at their reading level. Two book report forms went home in today’s communication folder. Students will be graded on their book reports. I told the students I should be able to retell the story from their book report sheet.
Service Project: On Tuesday, March 7, the fourth graders had a chance to go out into the community and serve. In class we talk a lot about how Catholics are called to serve others so it was a wonderful opportunity to for them to have a chance to live out this call. The students had a rewarding time helping to pack medical supplies for the next trip to Haiti! I was very impressed with their behavior.
Curriculum Fair Project: The fourth graders will soon be studying biographies and will be completing a project for the Curriculum Fair on this genre. Students will want to begin looking for a biography to read and share for this assignment. Students may choose books from the public, school, or classroom libraries. The due date for finding a book is: Thursday, February 16.
In order for the student to be able to read the book independently, please make sure the book is at your child’s reading level. If you are not sure, please send it to the classroom and I can check the reading level.
Please Ask Your Child:
What landform covers much of the Midwest?
What is Lake Effect?
Find congruent and similiar shapes or objects at home.

Thank You!
Multiplication Facts: The Fourth graders are making progress on the multiplication facts! Just a reminder that as they move to a higher level study sheet, the facts become more challenging. So please keep studying! Knowing the facts will make what we do in math this year much more easier to learn.
Reading: Students have been assigned to read two books at their reading level during the month of November. Two story maps that need to be completed after reading the books were sent home in last week’s communication folder.
Act of Contrition: During Advent the students will be celebrating the season by attending confession. Therefore, we will be reviewing the Act of Contrition. Now that they are in fourth grade, we will be learning a little bit longer version. Please see a copy of the prayer in today’s communication folder. Students should have the prayer memorized by Friday, November 18.
Please Ask Your Child:
Why is Ordinary Time called “ordinary”?
What color represents ordinary time?
Who are the four gospel writers?
Did you beat your goal on the two minute timing?
Did you move up a level on the multiplication study sheets?
How did Thomas Jefferson help bring democracy to our country?
Reminders:
A BAG and a BUCK Collection is going on to collect food for Haiti.
The school Book Fair runs from November 14-18.
Students need to bring in $3 for the Thanksgiving Feast.
Parent Teacher Conferences: November 17 and 21.
September 2011
Welcome to a new school year! I am very excited about this school year and have heard wonderful comments about the new 4th grade class. During this school year I look forward to getting to know your child and helping him/her have a very successful year. Please remember that if you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, you can contact me at 784-0696 ext. 45. (To leave a message, please press 1 after the greeting.) I have listed below some information you may find helpful:
Homework Hotline: For a list of assignments that need to be completed by the following day, please call 784-0696 ext. 45. This number will send you to the 4th grade room where you can receive the homework list.
Homework Folder: I have asked the 4th graders to choose a folder and label it “Homework Folder”. One pocket will be labeled “Finished “ and the other labeled “Homework.” Each evening students should complete the assignments in the homework pocket. Any assignments that have been completed in class will be turned into the teacher. If you would like your child to bring home all completed assignments before turning them in, they can place their papers in the “finished” pocket and return the assignments the following day.
As the school year becomes busy, you may notice your child’s folder becoming very full and unorganized. At times I will help the students sort through their folders and clean them out, but if you notice your child’s folder continues to be messy, please take some time at home and remove unnecessary papers.
If your child says he/she does not have any homework, please remember the following important activities your child can do:
**Study spelling words, multiplication/division facts
**Read a book!
**Write a letter to a relative or friend.
**Please remember that outdoor exercise is very important for your child’s learning and development.
Please look for more information regarding the upcoming year and 4th grade news in future newsletters. Newsletters will go home each Friday and will be posted on the 4h grade website at holytrinityschool@catholicweb.com.
A big thank you to Mrs. Willis for such a delicious and fun Halloween party! The fourth grades had a great time! Thanks for all your hard work!
