Welcome to Our Website! We have a beautiful school library for your children. Come visit with their class on Wednesday or Thursday. You can see how well your child reads and I'll put you to work processing books.
Ask your kids about our Library Books. They are so smart!
The kindergarten class participate in story time. We do a different theme each week and the kids are learning ASL (American Sign Language) along with being "Book Detectives".They respond to the story with questions to see how well they are comprehending. The kids explore a new area of the library each week, switching from fact books (non-fiction) to Fun books (fiction.) We've enjoyed reading books of many different genres. They seem to love historical fiction as well as silly stories. They are learning to sign new words every week and enjoy signing to me outside the classroom. I am so proud of them. They are singing and signing like champs. I love them.
The First Graders relearned libray rules. It was fun to meet our two new friends, Rowan and Bryce. They are excited to explore new parts of the library.
We are learning Fables. Your kids will tell you that fables are animal tales that teach a lesson. We read about the lion and the mouse (as well as learned thier signs) and discovered that friends come in all sizes and shapes. We will do this unit for 11 weeks. Ask your kids about the art work of Eric Carle. They studied his work last year and remember how his work is different from other artists.
The Second Graders are keeping a jounal on our new book, The Berenstain Bears and the Haunted Hayride. They worked hard on beginning their journals. This can be a lot of writing for them at first, but I am so impressed with how well they are doing. They will get to keep their journals and I'm hoping this will help them become writers and artists.
The older grades are reading aloud as a class. We vote on a book and take turns reading each week. We finish with a book discussion and vote on a new book. I love library time with your kids.
The THIRD GRADERS started Stanley in Space. They enjoyed Flat Stanley and are happy to begin a new one. We are almost done with this book. I'm looking forward to our book discussion and having them vote on our new book. (I suspect it will be another Stanley book;)
The FOURTH GRADERS are reading Sounder by William Armstrong. Sounder is a hound in a sharecropping family in the mid 1800's. The family relies on Sounder for food during the winter when the crops aren't growing. This story took a sad turn this week with Sounder being shot by the deputy. We left with Sounder barely alive; they are anxious to continue with the story.
The FIFTH GRADERS finished Socks by Beverly Cleary. I'm hoping they will continue to read her books.
We started the new book, Pleasing the Ghost by Sharon Creech. They are working on the clues in the story. Ask them how this author is different from Beverly Cleary. I remember most of your kids when they were in three-year old preschool and it is a joy to see how well they doing. Thanks for keeping them interested in reading.
The SIXTH GRADERS have finished Things Not Seen. We started a World War II book called A Boy at War. Adam is in the middle of boot camp and we are hoping he will survie the the drill instructors.
SEVENTH GRADE finished The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. They love this author's quirky writing and I have ordered new copies of Matilda for our next book. We started Matilda by Roald Dahl. This class loves to laugh and I really enjoy our time together. They are reading so fast, I have to keep ordering new books for them!
EIGHTH GRADERS are busy with their new books for literature. This quarter is nice for them because they can choose their own 200 page book. Keep them reading!
