HELPING PEOPLE WHERE THEY LIVE
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an organization of lay persons who seek, in a spirit of justice and charity and by a person-to-person involvement, to help those who are suffering.
OUR WORKS OF CHARITY
All year long twice a week volunteers distribute food and personal hygiene items to area families and individuals who are in need. Our pantry is stocked with a variety of canned goods-fruits and vegetables, soup, peanut butter, meat and tuna. We also distribute packaged pasta, cereal, beans, rice, cookies, and boxed dinners like macaroni and cheese and hamburger helper. Bulk staples such as sugar, flour, pancake mix, corn meal are stocked. Once a week volunteers pick up from Panera Bread their excess bread and pastries which we individually wrap and freeze to be distributed along with the rest of our pantry items. Personal hygiene items consist of toilet paper, paper towels, shampoo, bar and liquid body soap, and laundry detergent.
-THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKETS
The Saturday before Thanksgiving we have our annual Thanksgiving meal distribution to families in need. As many as a hundred volunteers gather in our church parking lot as early as 6:00 a.m. to unload the food, set up a distribution line and work through the morning assisting 400 plus families in obtaining a complete Thanksgiving meal for them to prepare in their homes.
-CHRISTMAS FOOD & GIFT ASSISTANCE
The middle of December we distribute food and gift cards to area families with children who are in need. Gift cards are targeted to provide clothing, shoes and toys for the little ones.
Our organization is totally dependent on donations from generous members of our church, school and community. Donations of food and personal hygiene items can be dropped off at our church preferably before or after weekend Masses (Sat. 4:00 p.m., Sunday 8:00, 10:00 & 11:30 a.m.). Tax deductible cash donations can be placed in the gold envelopes found in the pews every second weekend of the month and then taken up at the collection during the Masses. St. Vincent de Paul Society is very active in the fall with fundraisers to support our Thanksgiving and Christmas family distribution programs.
*Helping prepare and distribute food and hygiene items to needy families on Monday and Thursday afternoons here at the church out of our food pantry in Community Room B.
*Helping with fundraisers throughout the year (e.g. dinners, restaurant events, Adopt a Turkey, Sponsor a Child, “Souper” Bowl Weekend)
*Helping first to contact and then to prepare and distribute food and other aid items to needy families during the holidays (e.g. Calling takes place in November, Thanksgiving Food distribution on the Saturday morning before Thanksgiving, Christmas calling and distribution which happens during the first two weeks of December.)
*Placing the gold envelopes in the church pews prior to the Masses every second weekend of the month
