Vision Statement:
"To become the Body of Christ by worshipping God and serving others."
Immaculate Conception Parish welcomes you!
On behalf of our parish family, it gives me great joy to welcome you to our parish website.
Immaculate Conception Parish is a Catholic Church and Community that is here to serve you and to help you adjust to your new community.
Immaculate Conception is located in the north-eastern corner of Rensselaer County, 3 miles north of Route 7 or 2 miles south of Rt. 67. Following NYS Rt. 22, into the village of Hoosick Falls, we are located on Main Street across from the village park.
At Immaculate Conception we strive to embody the Gospel message of Jesus by creating and developing a loving community of believers who are pursuing Christian values and witnessing to the love of God and neighbor both within and beyond the parish community. Our parish vision is “to become the Body of Christ by worshiping God and serving others.”
Our school, Saint Mary’s Academy, educates approximately 165 children from kindergarten through eighth grade. From 1892, when it was established, until the present day, St. Mary’s Academy has been known as an institution of spiritual and academic excellence.
Our school places strong emphasis on the acquisition of Catholic, Christian attitudes, academic achievement and self-discipline. St. Mary’s Academy has as its goal the development of the whole child, spiritually, academically, physically, socially and emotionally. We believe that the educational process embraces the total upbringing of the child. Therefore, St. Mary’s Academy shares responsibility with parents in the development of attitudes and values that enable each child to grow and attain his/her highest potential at each stage of life.
At Immaculate Conception, we believe that a quality community is a way of life and we are a parish in action. Our numerous ministries, committees and activities provide ample opportunity for you to place your unique gifts and talents into service.
We would be delighted to welcome your family to our church and school community. Immaculate Conception is the only Roman Catholic Church located within the Town of Hoosick and as such draws a large number of both parishioners and visitors. Our parish currently has nearly 800 registered families, of which approximately 50% are active in parish life.
History
The first recorded Roman Catholic Mass in Hoosick Falls was celebrated in 1834 by Father J. Shanahan in an old school house. Masses continued to be held in the old schoolhouse and private residences until 1849 when a plot of land was purchased on Church Street where the first church was constructed.
By 1870, the number of parishioners had increased so much that it was necessary to build a new, larger church. The cornerstone of the current structure of brick and stone trimmings was dedicated on the 10th of December in 1871. Shortly after 1882, an increasingly large congregation necessitated enlarging the seating capacity. This was accomplished by adding two transepts, vestries and a large sanctuary which made the church cruciform and also greatly added to the appearance of the structure.
Building
Located on Main Street in the Village of Hoosick Falls, the building is 136 years old, seats approximately 400 people, has a large parish hall, a meeting room known as the St. Joseph's room, a full kitchen and pantry. The church interior underwent significant renovations in 1999.
Rectory
The Rectory is a large, wood framed house located one-half block from the church. This building also is home to the Parish offices. The building was purchased in 1927 by the Augustinian Order after the older Rectory building, which was built in 1882 and located much farther from the church, was sold.
