Learn more about St. Joseph Parish

About St. Joe's -- HISTORY: A log church was built at the present location in 1845 by German immigrants and was dedicated to St. Joseph. At that time, the church was a mission for Corpus Christi Church in Newport, Ky. In 1851, St. Joseph became a parish. With the closing of Corpus Christi parish in 1997, St. Joseph became Campbell County's oldest Catholic parish. An elementary school was established in 1851. Today, it is the longest continuing Catholic elementary school in the Diocese of Covington.

Father Paul Tenhundfeld served as pastor until 1998 when he retired from active ministry. Stephanie Zink, who had served as pastoral associate since 1997, continued in that capacity with Father Gerald Twaddell serving as sacramental minister. In 1999, Bishop Robert Muench appointed Sister Mary Kevan Seibert, a Sister of Notre Dame, to serve as pastoral administator of St. Joseph Parish until January 2008. Today, the parish is led by the Very Reverend Gerald Twaddell as our Resident Pastor.

MISSION STATEMENT: St. Joseph Church in Camp Springs, Kentucky, is a Catholic Community of baptized persons who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and who seek to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit. We are a community that gathers to be fed and nurtured by the Sacred Scriptures and the Eucharist to deepen our relationship with God. To carry on the mission of Jesus Christ and to further his kingdom, we will strive to build up our faith community by:

  • Worshippping together;
  • Sharing his good news by word and example;
  • Showing care and concern for each other;
  • Offering Catholic education;
  • Reaching out to others especially the deprived and oppressed, the unchurched and other Christians;
  • Committing to Christian stewardship as a way of life.

Our community is led by the Parish Pastoral Council collaborating with our Pastor in guiding the spiritual life, educational efforts and outreach ministry at all levels.
