About St. Lawrence Parish

Website: St. Lawrence Parish - Lawrenceville, GA

St. Lawrence was established as a mission of Holy Cross in Chamblee. The first Mass was celebrated on October 11, 1965. St. Lawrence was the first Catholic Mission in Gwinnett County.

By the Fall of 1969, the Mission had saved enough money to make a down payment on the current property. Archbishop Thomas Donnellan officially designated St. Lawrence as the name of the Misison in May, 1971. The Mission Church of St. Lawrence and its Mother Church, St. Patrick's, were entrusted to the care of the Missionaries of St. Francis De Sales in April, 1972. Construction of the first church began on February 26, 1973. Dedication of the church building was on November 4, 1973. This was the first building ever built for Catholic use in Gwinnett County.

The Mission formally became a parish on June 17, 1974, with 185 registered families. St. Lawrence continues to grow at a very fast pace. We now have over 1850 families and efforts are being made to prepare for the future. a ground breaking ceremony was held on November 10, 1998, for the construction of a multi-use building with 24 classrooms and a gymnasium. The dedication of this building was held on January 7, 2000.
