Learn more About Us

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through it's life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 12,000 councils and 1.6 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

The history of the Knights of Columbus's involvement in community life is a record of outstanding benevolent achievement. Knights volunteer in a variety of charitable enterprises to serve the people and programs of their communities.

Volunteerism informed by Christian concern is the hallmark of the Knights of Columbus. It results in outstanding contributions of time and talent to the Catholic Church, our communities, families, young people and brother Knights.

In late 1897 the message by ae of Columbianism came to the Tarrytowns. A decision was mad group of Catholic men that a K of C Council should be formed in the Tarrytown area. On March 6, 1898, members from La Rabida Council in Yonkers, NY came to Tarrytown and conferred the honors of First and Second Degrees on the new members of St. Elmo Council. St. Elmo's was chartered also on this same date. St. Elmo's has been located at our current residence at 114 North Washington Street in Tarrytown since 1959.  Join us!!!!!!!!!!!!
