Thomas J. Rodgers
Thomas J. Rodgers, 68, of Lower Allen Township, Camp Hill died Tuesday, October 13, 2009 in Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Township.
He was a retired teacher and Principal in both the Harrisburg School District and most recently the Cumberland Valley School District where he retired as a teacher at Sporting Hill Elementary School. Tom was a member of the first graduating class of Bishop McDevitt High School, Harrisburg; received his B.S. from Millersville State College, his Masters in Education from Shippensburg State College, and his Principal's Certificate from Western Maryland College, Westminster, MD.
He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, New Cumberland; K of C Council 4068, Lower Allen Twp.; past president of Steelton Area Jaycees; past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O. Elks, West Shore; social member of the Lower Allen VFW Post 7530; Capital Area Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame; and an avid Notre Dame fan.
Tom was born in Steelton to the late Hugh R. and Mary Ellen (Lawler) Rodgers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (Handley) Rodgers; two brothers, Hugh and Richard Rodgers; and a sister Christina Rodgers.
Surviving are his wife Kathryn V. Plank Rodgers; two daughters, Maureen A. Palese and husband Phil and Katrina M. Law and husband Dan all of Camp Hill; his son Michael T. Rodgers of Camp Hill; his step daughter Ann Marie Lawson and husband Brent of Camp Hill; his step son Gregory S. Plank of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Rosemary Flamini and husband Henry of Steelton and Patricia Griffiths and husband James of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Raymond Rodgers and wife Jeannette and William Rodgers and wife Mary Alice all of Harrisburg; two sisters in law, Yvonne and Elizabeth Rodgers; six grandchildren, Philip and Corinne Palese, Jordan Lawson, Justin Plank, and Trey and Morgan Law; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday, October 19, 2009 in his church. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery, Lower Allen Twp.
Viewings will be from 6-8 pm on Sunday and 9:30-10 am on Monday in Parthemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1303 Bridge St. New Cumberland.
