Haverstraw Council 581 Knights of Columbus at 56 West Broad St, Haverstraw, NY 10927 US - Our Intercessors in Heaven

Our Intercessors in Heaven

As Catholics we are aware of our being part of the "Communion of Saints", that living body comprised of those blessed souls who have already risen to heaven, those expectant souls in purgatory who know their place is assured, and those of us who are still striving to answer our own call to holiness.

As Knights, we also are aware that are members are in all three states. While we pray for our departed brothers who are still in purgatory and pray for and encourage our brothers here on earth, we often overlook the fact that we have many brothers who have already entered the kingdom of heaven.

Holy Mother Church has, in fact, canonized six of our brothers and beatified three others. The tales of these ten men (eight priests and two laymen) are told in the box labelled "Call to Holiness". The eight priests and one of the laymen were Mexican martyrs and the other layman, a Puerto Rican, lived his life as a living witness to the ideas of the Second Vatican Council before the Council even took place. A truly amazing fact is that his beatification process only took eight years - a record for laymen in the Church. His life serves as a true model for his brother Knights.

I have gleaned information from Columbia and from the Vatican archives in order to write these short biographical summaries. Please be forgiving, the Vatican sources on the canonized priests were in Spanish and my translations are sloppy at best.

Learn their stories and pray to them for all of us.
