Our Councils History

Council 893 was the third council to be initiated in the state of Alabama. The date of inception was April 10, 1904. The first Grand Knight of the council was Thomas Carr, who was also the mayor of the city of Montgomery. The first council home was located in a two story house on Court Street, at what is now the overpass above Interstate 85. The council drew members from Montgomery and the surrounding cities and towns. When Interstate 85 was planned, the council home was sold to the state for the purpose of construction of the highway. The council then moved further south, to Goode Street, just behind Sidney Lanier High School. There, an addition was added to the building to accommodate various activities, such as New Years dances, parties, and conducting bingo games The council remained active at the Goode Street address until a decision was made to sell the home...

Knights to Cook for St Bede Fall Festival

The Knights of Columbus grill will barely be cooled down from the Labor Day BBQ before we crank it up again for this year’s St Bedes Fall Festival. The Festival is scheduled for Oct. 25th, 2009. The Parish Council asked if we would cook this year after the success from our cook out at the St Bede School picnic at the end of the 08-09 school year. The Festival is put together by St Bedes School and the Parish Council. This effort takes a lot of time and effort by a lot of dedicated people who do a great job every year. Most people will tell you the Knights are always looking for a reason to fire their grill up. We feel this is just one of the ways we can help our Catholic Schools and Parishes. Remember tickets are just $1.00 per person so mark your calendars and get ready to have a great time.

Dominican Nuns of St Jude gets new Lawn Tractor

The Monastery of Nuns in Marbury has long been a community that our KofC Council 893 has strongly supported for many years. Their existence since 1944 depends on the help and donations from individuals and organizations. Their website says: “Our community's motto is UT OMNES UNUM SINT, "that all may be one" (John 17:21). With this intention in our hearts, we offer our lives of prayer and contemplation to God through Our Lady for all the needs of the Church and of the world.”We have been proud to do our part to help with their needs. One of those needs arose this summer when their lawn tractor died. We contacted a local company Sun South a John Deere lawn mower dealer who graciously gave us a very good deal on a new lawn tractor that fit the Monastery’s needs. We paid for, picked up and delivered the mower to a very grateful group of Sisters. We urge everyone to help the Nuns in Marbury anyway you can.

Hunger USA
Hunger here in the richest nation in the world? Impossible, one might think. But the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ annual Hunger and Homelessness Survey makes it clear that hunger and food insecurity (not always having access to enough food to meet basic needs) not only exist, but are on the rise. The increase is reflected in the fact that the two dozen cities surveyed found that requests for ...
