Grand Knight's Report: From Fr. Hubert Council #5446 Last month I mentioned a slogan for this year’s membership blitzes “…be a 24 hour Knight”. How do we boil it down to a minimum of 24 hours? Any amount of time you can offer is time well spent and time we need! In the coming months we have weekly Bingo on Wednesday and a few more Millionaire Parties which keep our council barely in the black. We really need a shift from everyone at these events to keep our charitable works going! Many other tasks can be completed at your own pace from home or wherever you prefer. We are in need of the following Service Program Directors: Youth, Council, and Family. For more information on what these posts are about, ask one of your officers or check out the K of C website at www.kofc.org. I plan to have a work night, or if we can get enough help, a work weekend in October. The building is long overdue for some basic sprucing up. Look for the date(s) in your October newsletter. In closing, your council officers and I are asking all of you as members to consider increasing your level of participation within your council. Through everyone’s combined efforts the works we do as Knights can continue to benefit all those in our communities. PRAYER LIST First let us thank God for the continued good health of Alexis (Woody and Joyce Patterson's niece), Catie Maurer (GK's granddaughter), and Denise Neifert (Charlie and Marge Kuderik's daughter) whose cancers have been in remission for some time now. We continue to pray for them and also for Richard Newell Jr., Matt Kalo, Jim Leonard, Anna Johns, Anthony and Bertha Yuhas ( parents of John Yuhas), Virginia Everett’s son Tim, William Geierman , Jim and Barbara Forsythe, Tyler Maurer who has Chronic Lung Problems, Ann Manikowski, Rita Pawlowski, Greg Toporek, Marge & Charlie Kuderik, Stan Dyl, Fr Wytrwal Andrew Maurer, son of Brother Knight Joe Maurer. Also remember Fr. Fred from St. Charles, Newport, Sandy Mallon, and Jim & Barb Forsythes’ great nephew Trevor Lucas (7) who is very sick. Finally, remember Leonard Zeniewicz who is recovering from surgery. Please pray for the happy repose of the soul of Orville Eicholtz, loving father of Joan Yuhas. Mr Eicholtz died on August 14. Also remember Frank Girard, a former member of our council who died on August 5, 2009. Frank had been a church secretary at St. Roch’s in the 70s Words from District Deputy Richard Lambrix Membership - As with any organization if you are not recruiting new members the organization is going to die. Currently in Michigan we are 71,000 strong and our next plateau is to reach 71,500 by June 30, 2010. Every man should have the opportunity to join and the first step is for each of us to ask someone. When speaking to that potential candidate explain a little about what we do as Knights. Defend Life, help the Mentally Impaired, support seminarians and religious, Holy Cross Children’s Services/Boysville, Youth- spelling bee- free throw- essays- posters contests, etc. Upon having sponsored an individual into the Order, as the proposer, please encourage the new member to attend a meeting and accompany him until he gets to know a few of the other brother knights. Also invite him to help with one of the council projects. State Raffle - Do what you can in selling the raffle tickets you received from the Michigan State Council. Baby Bottle Campaign - The Baby Bottle I carry with me to the meetings is now at $82.02. It is my hope that the monies can be used to purchase an Ultra Sound Machine for a Pro-life facility in the Detroit Archdiocese, which is the goal of our State Pro-life Couple, Paul and Sue Thorn.
Fr. Hubert Council Knights of Columbus has been invited by Music Minister Elizabeth Dyc to participate in the 9/11 Night Prayer Program at St. Roch at 7:00 PM.
The Night Prayer (an ancient form of our Church's prayer) is the "kick-off" for this years' Music Ministry at St. Roch, and since it falls directly on 9/11 we wanted to commemorate the memory of those who passed.
--Afterward, there is a talk about the Ministry from a member of the Worship Office for the Archdiocese, and then snacks/fellowship--anyone is invited to all aspects of the Friday eve activities--Spread the word!
