GRATITUDE FOR YOUR GENEROSITY: At this time of year, I am always overwhelmed by the love and generosity of God. Each one of you shows it to me in your witness of faith and your love. Thank you! Your generosity, prayers, love and support with your many cards, gifts, and goodies leaves me with a grateful heart at how much God has blessed me in my priestly vocation. God can never be outdone in generosity!
To get prepared for the Christmas celebrations takes a lot of
preparation to get everything ready and this certainly can’t be done without the able assistance of our parish staff—Chris Cirillo, Pat Miller, Donna Speray, Jane Wade, and Melanie White. Thanks to each one of them for all they do to make St. Lawrence such a warm and welcoming parish.
A special thank you for the parishioners who came last
Wednesday to decorate the Church so beautifully and Melanie White for the meal she prepared and for organizing the decorating; the music ministry of Jane Wade, Melanie White, the St. Lawrence choir, and the instrumentalists for the Christmas liturgies; and for the lectors, servers, and Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist for making the liturgies go so smoothly.
Also, the parish had a wonderful Christmas open house
generously hosted by Daniel and Kay Clark at their home, the Cavanaugh House. Everyone really had a wonderful time, with Christmas caroling, as well as a delicious pot-luck organized by Sue Litkenhus and assisted by other parishioners who brought different dishes. Thanks to all who made it such a great evening!

USE OF ENVELOPES: “What difference does it make whether I use envelopes or not?” Ever heard that or wondered about it yourself? Certainly, the gift and the intent of the giver are more important than the envelope itself. The uses of envelopes are acts of responsible stewardship—and for some very good reasons. Taking the time to use the offertory envelopes makes it more likely that our contribution will be “planned and proportionate,” rather than random—and more than just the available change that’s left over when the ushers pass the baskets. Also, in reflecting upon and deciding what to give in a planned and proportionate way, we draw closer to God and we will give out of a sense of gratitude, not a hurried sense of guilt. Putting our offertory in an envelope is also a witness to our membership in this faith community, clearly saying, “I belong to this parish and I am a member of the body of Christ.” The new Offertory Envelopes for 2012 are in the Nathex. Please take them and use them. Our Pope Benedict’s words—”The promotion of the practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the Church and for the spiritual wellbeing of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent, and treasure.” Please note that envelope numbers have been changed this year.
