The Abbey of the Genesee is a community of contemplative monks belonging to the world-wide Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (O.C.S.O.) more commonly known as Trappists. As described in our Constitutions our community belongs to ". . . a monastic institute wholly ordered to contemplation. Adore Christ for Peace
You ask how the bread becomes the Body of Christ, and the wine . . . the Blood of Christ I shall tell you: the Holy Spirit comes upon them and accomplishes what surpasses every word and thought . . . Let it be enough for you to understand that it is by the Holy Spirit, just as it was of the Holy Virgin and by the Holy Spirit that the Lord, through and in himself, took flesh. [St. John Damascene, De fide orth 4, 13: PG 94, 1145A.] "

Arch of Triumph
n January 2001, the first month of the new millennium, The Association for The Arch of Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and International Shrine of the Holy Innocents, a not-for-profit New York corporation, was formed in Buffalo, New York. As described in detail in our Prospectus, the Association’s purpose is to build a truly world-class, globally significant shrine, to be located on the shore of Lake Erie adjacent to downtown Buffalo. The shrine will feature primarily a monumental, ascendable, golden triumphal arch, The Arch of Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to be the world’s tallest monument measuring 700 feet to the tip of the golden Cross that will surmount its peak (seven being the mystical number of perfection, as Mary represents the perfection of humanity).

Marians of the Immaculate Conception
When the Congregation of Marians was founded in 1673, there were three basic ends in mind: to extend the devotion to Mary, to bring relief to the suffering souls in Purgatory, for whom we have a serious obligation to implore God's mercy; and to conduct apostolic work through assistance to pastors. This is one of the premier Divine Mercy sites on the Internet.

Message of May 25, 2008 “Dear children! In this time of grace, when God has permitted me to be with you, little children, I call you anew to conversion. Work on the salvation of the world in a special way while I am with you. God is merciful and gives special graces, therefore, seek them through prayer. I am with you and do not leave you alone. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

Our Lady Help of Christians
vow made in 1836, during a November storm on the Atlantic, was the seed for the building of Maria Hilf Chapel. Joseph Batt, from Alsace, was sailing to America with his family when the fateful storm struck and he made his vow to Maria Hilf. In 1853, Joseph fulfilled his vow and completed a small chapel that soon became the site of pilgrimages that continue to this day. The chapel was enlarged in 1871 and once more in 1926. In October 1890 this church became the first parish in Cheektowaga --Our Lady Help of Christians.

Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, Lewiston, NY
Since 1954, Our Lady of Fatima Shrine has become a place of natural beauty, art, communal prayer, and renewal to thousands who visit the unique buildings and grounds each year. The magnificence and natural beauty of the Shrine is highlighted by an awe-inspiring Dome Basilica covered with two layers of glass and Plexiglas, with a contour of the Northern Hemisphere of the globe. The impressive approach to the Basilica is down the Avenue of the Saints (over one hundred life-size marble statues represent Saints from every race and walk of life) and around the serenity of the Rosary Pool. Two flights of stairs, with 63 steps, lead to the top of the Dome, where, in graceful majesty, stands a huge statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The statue, carved from Vermont granite, is 13 feet high and weighs ten tons. From the top of the Dome, visitors can view the entire Shrine grounds and surrounding countryside.

Our Lady of Guadalupe
In 1531 a "Lady from Heaven" appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City.

Our Lady of Victory Basilica
Recently named Buffalo's "Most influential citizen of the 20th century" by the Buffalo News, Father Nelson Baker was (and continues to be) well known by tens of thousands as a saintly man. By many, the humble priest is simply known as "the Padre of the Poor." He opened the doors of his institutions to poor and needy children, unwed mothers and their babies, and anyone else who needed a helping hand. Around the turn of the 20th century, his Infant Home accepted unwanted babies and provided a safe environment for unwed mothers. His General Hospital served the surrounding community, and his orphanage for boys took in unwanted children, showed them love, and taught them how to succeed in a cruel world. Prior to Father Baker's arrival, the "Limestone Hill" Institutions (as they were known) served 238 boys, just 18 years later, that number nearly tripled (644). But Father Baker's most visible accomplishment was the Basilica of Our Lady of Victory dedicated to Jesus' Mother as Victorious Queen. The shrine -- built for nearly three million dollars and paid for entirely through donations -- was consecrated on May 26, 1926, and capped off Father Baker's 50th year in the priesthood and 84th year of life! The "Padre of the Poor" would be called upon time and time again through the last 10 years of his life as the Great Depression ravaged Western New York. Before passing away at the age of 94 in the very hospital he built, it was estimated that his institutions provided stability and care to hundreds of thousands of needy children, youth, and adults.
