MARIANISTS AT ST. JOSEPHINE BAKHITA FORMATION CENTER |
St. J. Bakhita Formation Center ORIGINS AND SIGNIFICANCE 8 December 2008
The center is named after St. Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese, the first saint canonised from the Sudan (October, 2000). Her name means “Lucky One” in Arabic. This is very appropriate title for this center since everyone here is in training is Sudanese and is very privileged to have the opportunities offered by this center. The center began in 1996 and the Marianists began working here in 2002.
The peace agreement for southern Sudan openes up many new possibilities. One of them is moving the fromation of catechists, young seminarians and teachers back to the Sudan. In line with this program, the work at Bakhita Center was completed in 2008. A new formation center in Sudan will open in 2009. News concerning its development will be posted as it becomes available.
